Getting to Kefalonia is relatively straightforward. The capital, Argostoli boasts a modern international airport that caters largely for charter flights from the UK. If you are based in the UK it is easy to get a direct flight during the summer months. During the off season, it is necessary to fly first to Athens and then make your way onwards by domestic flight or road and ferry. Travellers wishing to fly from other countries will almost certainly have to travel via Athens. Links for airlines can be found below.

The domestic flight from Athens takes around 45 minutes and there are three airlines operating this route. It is important to check timetables carefully to ensure that departure and arrival times coincide.

Kefalonia is well connected by sea and there are ports in Sami, Poros, Lixouri, Fiscardo and Argostoli. Visitors making their way by road are most likely to arrive in Sami from Patras. There are coaches from Athens to Patras several times a day and the journey takes about 3 hours. The onward ferry from Patras to Sami will take another 3 hours. Ferries from Patras are twice daily on most days of the week. However, it is important to check timetables carefully before travelling.
